Dancing to Connect

Student Created, Student Performed. Kids feel they are taken seriously.

• An award-winning initiative created by Battery Dance Company that engages international youth in creativity and team-building through modern dance.

• DtC workshops started in Germany in 2006 and have since been held successfully in cities throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.

• Local schools host Battery Dance Company’s dance teaching artists, in collaboration with local teaching artists, over a period of 6 days. Each team of teachers works with a group of 20 students, and school administrators allow for the clearing of students’ academic schedule for the duration of the workshop. Each day consists of students working collectively under the careful guidance of teachering artists towards the creation of their own choreography.

• The week intensive culimantes in a final performance in which the students present their dances for the public, their fellow classmates, families and communities, alongside the Battery Dance professionals whose performances complement the program.

• DtC encourages tolerance, team-work, self confidence, integration and inter-cultural understanding.
